What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a primary health care modality that has flourished in China for over 2,500 years and is widely Asia and Europe. It is considered one of the newest primary health care provisions in the country. Acupuncture has grown as both western and oriental health care providers, medical research, and the public experience it, integrate it in their health care and spread its benefits.

Far more than a technique of inserting tiny threadlike needles along meridian lines of the body, acupuncture’s complex system of diagnostic corollaries take into consideration you as a whole, not just isolated systems. Acupuncture practiced based on discerning a “patter of disharmony” and treating accordingly. Modern acupuncturists may use a number of modalities to treat-certain physical therapies and equipment, herbal medicine, moxibustion and nutrition.

Acupuncture treats to strengthen your physical body, prevent disease, control pain, and achieve longevity. You will find the aim, as practiced in oriental medicine in general, is not limited to ridding or relieving symptoms. The larger picture is to increase the quality of your life and your ability to function.

  • Painful Obstruction Syndrome
    • Neck, Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist
    • Fingers, Hip, Knee, Ankle, Toes
  • Lower back-ache and Sciatiea
  • Weight Loss
  • Dysmenorrhea
  • Insomnia

    • From Emotional Stress

How effective is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is highly effective not only as a preventative medicine, but as a drug free treatment of signs and symptoms.

Studies indicate that acupuncture influences the central and peripheral nervous system. Evidence shows it releases endorphins from the brain which make acupuncture particularly effective in pain control.

Among a host of factors, acupuncture affects sugar, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels in the blood, the functioning of the gastrointestinal system and activity of the endocrine system.

Acupuncture works with the body, strengthening and balancing energy. It improves circulation and allows the body to heal itself more quickly and more completely.

How does an Acupuncturist treat?

Acupuncturists may use their refined skills with one or a number of techniques to administer effective treatment. The practical techniques and their functions are described below:

  • Acupuncture – as described above. One time disposable needles are used.
  • Electrical Stimulation – through the needles opens energy conduction pathways through the body.
  • Acupressure – (the use of finger instead of needling the point) and Moxibustion (the burning of moxa over the point) to help promote circulation and relax muscle spasms.
  • Oriental Herbs – are very effective at strengthening and regulating flows of energy through out the body.
  • Nutrition – programs restore balance within the body.
  • Exercise – such as Qi Gong (which your acupuncturist may demonstrate) strengthens and circulates vital energy. This affects both your strength and motivation during activity.
